About the book:
I wrote this book because I wanted to teach others about therapeutic horsemanship in a way that was easy to understand for all ages. By breaking down the book into two sections, one for a parent to read with their child and the second part for the parent to learn more about the contents of the book, I made this information accessible to people of all ages. I chose the subject of therapeutic riding because it’s not commonly known and many people can benefit from it.
I started volunteering at REINS during the fall of my freshman year, in 2016, and since then I’ve been there almost every Saturday. I heard about it by chance and am so thankful I did. I’ve met so many riders and their parents, instructors and volunteers who all love being there. It’s been fascinating to watch students progress from timid to confident riders who love their lessons.
The spring term of my senior year, 2019, I enrolled in a capstone class, where I have the freedom to do any project that I felt passionate about. I wanted to write a children’s book and a student at REINS seemed like the perfect topic. I researched therapeutic riding, premature birth, held numerous interviews, used watercolor illustrations for all the paintings, wrote, designed and edited the book. It’s been a long journey but I’m thrilled with how the book turned out.
